Open position: PhD in Medical Visualization!

We are looking for a PhD candidate in medical visualization to join our team!

PhD Research Fellow in Medical Visualization

There is a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow in Medical Visualization at the Department of Informatics. The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years with the possibility of a 4th year with compulsory other work (e.g. teaching duties at the Department). The position is financed by the EU Horizon project VASCUL-AID.

About the project/work tasks

The aim of the VASCUL-AID project is to predict the risk of cardiovascular events and progression of the vascular diseases Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) and Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) to influence the course of disease improving the patient’s quality of life and care and assisting clinicians to make better-informed decisions involving the patient. The project will identify patients who are at high risk for AAA growth or PAD progression and cardiovascular events through a trustworthy AI-driven platform (VASCUL-AID) that integrates multi-source parameters including imaging, proteomic and genomic data as well as life-style patient data from wearables to enable personalized vascular disease management. The VASCUL-AID platform consists of AI risk-prediction tools, a patient communication app and a clinical dashboard to support clinical decision-making.

It will be your job to:

  • Research and develop novel visualization techniques to facilitate effective patient communication for personalized treatment and prevention strategies.
  • Research and develop novel integrated visualization techniques for heterogeneous medical data to provide insight to researchers and caregivers.
  • Research and develop interactive visualization techniques to visualize the workings and explain the outcomes of AI tools, including their uncertainties, in order to ensure transparency and build trust in AI-based methods.
