Visual Computing Forum

With our Visual Computing Forum (VCF) series of seminars (see: vis.UiB.no/vcf) we also are interested in exploring new formats. In particular, we believe that in times where there is more and more pre-recorded content (e.g., for virtual conferences) that it is important to provide additional outlets for scientific discourse and exchange.

Thus, we decided to do something different in the upcoming VCF on Dec. 3 (10:15 CET): instead of a regular talk, we will instead allow participants to benefit from the vast experience and expertise of our guest, Prof. Eduard Gröller, using an AMA (Ask Me Anything) format [1]. One inspiration for inviting Prof. Gröller was his talk “How to do a Successful PhD (in Visual Computing)” at this year’s Bio+Med+Vis spring school [2], which caused an exceptionally large response among participants.

Already before the event, we invite everyone to submit questions to Prof. Gröller using the following form:

https://forms.gle/RzyuTbwDW7GQ9is96

Of course these questions should focus on topics related to science and academia, but we see a broad range of potential areas that could be explored, for instance:

– scientific leadership
– career planning
– student supervision
– development of research agendas
– dealing with setbacks
– handling conflicts (with colleagues/students/…)
– work-life balance
– …

There will also be the opportunity to ask “live” during the seminar (via Zoom), but we encourage you to already now submit your questions.
