Best Paper Honorable Mention at VCBM 2021

Our work on the visual communication of biomedical processes [1] was awarded a Best Paper Honorable Mention at the 2021 Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine. The three best papers presented at the workshop are selected by an international jury and will be invited to publish an extended version of their work in the journal Computer Graphics Forum.

In this collaborative work between the University of Bergen, the University of Magdeburg, and the Johns Hopkins University, we study communication scenarios of well-known biomedical processes and their standard visual representations with a particular focus on differences between experts and non-experts. Our findings suggest numerous opportunities for the continued convergence of visualization and biomedical illustration techniques for targeted visualization design.
